How We Fit a Carpet
Fitting day starts with clearing the room, lifting the old carpet and underlay and checking the floor underneath. Loose boards are screwed down, nail heads punched in and anything that would show through the new carpet is dealt with before it goes down.
New gripper goes round the edge of the room, the underlay is cut and taped, then the carpet is laid out, trimmed and stretched onto the gripper with a power stretcher or a knee kicker depending on the room. A carpet that has been stretched properly does not ripple or wrinkle when the heating comes on.
Seams are planned when we measure, run with the pile direction and placed where they are least seen, usually away from the window. Doorways get a proper bar or a tucked edge so there is nothing to catch a foot on.
