Will Your Room Go Down in One Piece?

Give the room size and it draws the roll over the plan. If the shorter side fits within a roll width, there is no seam.

One piece

A 4 Metre Roll Covers It With No Seam

The shorter side is 3.2 m, so the floor goes down in one piece across the 4 m width and runs 4.6 m along the room. We allow extra for the pattern and the doorways when we measure.

Most ranges come in 2, 3 and 4 metre widths. A guide only: the measure is free and it is what we quote from.

The Practical Floor, Done Well

Sheet vinyl has come a long way. Modern cushioned vinyl has a thick, soft backing that is warm and quiet underfoot, a wear layer that stands up to a busy kitchen, and printed designs that pass for wood, stone or tile from a normal standing height.

Its great advantage over any plank floor is that it goes down in one piece. Wherever the room fits within the roll width there are no joints at all, so there is nothing for water, grit or crumbs to get into. For a bathroom or a utility room that is hard to beat.

It is also the floor we recommend most often to landlords: quick to fit, easy to keep clean and sensible on price.

Where Vinyl Flooring Suits

Kitchens and bathrooms first, because a floor that is waterproof in one sheet is exactly what those rooms need. Utility rooms, downstairs cloakrooms and conservatories next. It is also a good choice for a child's bedroom or a playroom where spills are part of the day.

Safety flooring is the slip resistant version, with a textured surface designed for wet areas. It suits wet rooms, care settings, commercial kitchens and anyone who wants extra grip in a bathroom.

How We Fit Vinyl

Vinyl shows whatever is underneath it, so the floor is prepared first: boards overlaid with ply, concrete skimmed, old vinyl lifted rather than covered. The sheet is then cut to the room with a little to spare, trimmed to the walls and units, and either loose laid, stuck at the edges or fully bonded depending on the room and the range.

Where a room is wider than the roll, the seam is planned where it will be least seen, the pattern is matched across it and the join is sealed or welded so it stays watertight.

Questions

Vinyl Flooring Questions

The things we are asked in the shop. Anything else, call 01323 505166.

Yes. The sheet is waterproof, and where a room fits within the roll width there are no joints at all. Seams and edges are sealed so a bathroom or kitchen floor stays watertight.

Most ranges come in 2, 3 and 4 metre widths. If the shorter side of the room is within one of those, the floor goes down in one piece. Try our roll planner above.

No. Sheet vinyl comes on a roll and goes down in one piece; LVT is individual planks or tiles laid in a pattern. LVT looks more like real wood or stone; vinyl is quicker, cheaper and goes down in one piece.

Yes, over a plywood overlay so the boards cannot show through. Over concrete the floor is skimmed with a levelling compound first.

Yes. Slip resistant safety flooring for wet rooms, care settings and commercial kitchens, welded at the seams and coved up the wall where required.

A good cushioned vinyl in a family kitchen will give many years of service. The wear layer thickness is the thing to compare between ranges, and we will point you to the right grade for the room.
