Why LVT

The Floor Most of Our Customers End Up Choosing

Luxury vinyl tile is a hard wearing vinyl plank or tile with a printed and embossed surface that looks and feels like wood or stone. It is warm underfoot, quiet, waterproof, and it will take a kitchen, a hallway and a utility room in its stride.

The reason it works so well in older Eastbourne houses is the fitting. LVT goes down onto a floor that has been levelled and smoothed first, so an uneven Victorian ground floor ends up flat, and the planks run through from the kitchen into the hall with no thresholds in the way.

The kitchen beside this text is one of ours: a whole ground floor in Eastbourne, latex levelled and laid in an oak effect plank straight through.

Laying patterns

Straight, Herringbone or Chevron

The same plank, three very different floors. Pick the pattern and the colour and watch it lay itself in.

Herringbone

Short planks laid in a zigzag, each end meeting the side of the next. The classic pattern for a hall or a kitchen, and the one people ask for most.

Colour

Drawn to scale from a 4:1 plank. Bring the room size and we will tell you how many boxes each pattern needs and how much waste to allow.

Glue Down or Click

Glue down LVT is stuck to a smoothed subfloor. It is the most stable, the thinnest and the best choice for kitchens, bathrooms, underfloor heating and any large open plan floor. It needs the floor underneath to be flat and dry, which is why the preparation is part of every quote.

Click LVT floats over an underlay, like laminate, and locks together at the edges. It is quicker to fit, kinder to a slightly uneven floor and easy to lift later, which makes it popular for bedrooms, home offices and rental properties. Rigid core planks are the stiffer, more forgiving version.

We fit both, and we will tell you which suits your floor when we measure rather than sell you the one in the van.

Preparing the Floor

Floorboards are overlaid with plywood and skimmed. Concrete is tested for moisture and levelled with a latex compound. Old tiles are checked and levelled over. This is the unglamorous part of an LVT job and it is where the finish is decided: a plank floor shows every ridge in whatever is underneath it.

It is also why we measure in person. A floor we have seen is a floor we can quote for accurately, with the preparation included rather than added on later.

Questions

LVT Flooring Questions

The things we are asked in the shop. Anything else, call 01323 505166.

The planks themselves are. A glued down LVT floor with sealed edges is the floor we recommend for a kitchen, a bathroom or a utility room. Click LVT is water resistant rather than fully waterproof at the joints, so we use it in drier rooms.

Yes. Most ranges are suitable for underfloor heating within the manufacturer's temperature limits, and glue down LVT is the best flooring for it because it is thin and in direct contact with the floor.

Almost always, yes. LVT shows anything underneath it, so floorboards are overlaid with ply and concrete is skimmed with a levelling compound. It is included in our quote.

LVT is vinyl all the way through, so it is waterproof, quieter and warmer. Laminate is a wood fibre board with a printed surface, harder wearing against scratches and usually cheaper. See our guide to choosing between them.

Yes. Herringbone and chevron LVT are among our most requested floors. They use more planks and take longer to lay than a straight floor, and we quote for that honestly.

A vacuum or a soft brush and a damp mop with a mild cleaner. No steam mops and no abrasive pads. Felt pads under the furniture keep it looking new.
